DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL STUDIES, K-12
Applications will be accepted for the following anticipated vacancy: Director of Social Studies, K-12. This is a 12-month Probationary appointment. Prerequisites for the position are:
- New York State certification - SDA/SBL/SDL
- Strong administrative experience
- Expertise in leadership, human relations and communication
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide supportive leadership and direction for rigorous and challenging academic programs for all students, through sound student-centered decision-making
- Seal of Civic Readiness
- Work cooperatively with Principals, Department Chairs, Leads, and teachers and Central Office Administration to implement social studies curriculum
- Work collaboratively with leadership team on instructional and curriculum matters
- Monitor and coordinate the development of curriculum, selecting instructional materials and/or textbooks and, making recommendations to enhance teaching
- Review new course proposals and make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services
- Observe and evaluate instructional staff
- Prepare recommendations for tenure in collaboration with building principals
- Convene, chair and monitor department and staff meetings to set priorities for instruction and staff development. Plan and provide professional development activities
- Assist in the preparation of the Social Studies Departmental budgets.
- Serve on District committees; prepare presentations; establish working relationships with outside sources that may be of service to teachers, parents and /or students
This is a leadership team position. The Director of Social Studies, K-12, will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services.
